Teachers Teaching Science

            I was never a big fan of learning science as a child and thought that Science was pointless. Now as an adult I ask myself “What was I thinking for thinking that?” I now realize the importance’s of science and how science has brought the world closer together. Science is what allowed us to have electricity, communication with the world or each other through computers, phones and television. Science has allowed humans to live longer lives then in the late 18^th and early 1900’s. Medicine has reached new levels were we can clone each other and build new organs through stem cells and yet with all these new inventions students still find Science to be pointless of learning. I think that if teachers found new forms and ways to teach students Science for what it really is then what the student seems to think Science is. I think that students really don’t have an understanding about what Science really is and teachers should make sure that at a young age they teach students to make connections with Science and the real world.

If we want our students to be interested in Science we must start with our teachers both future teachers and teachers that have been in the field. We need to educate teachers by having teachers attend workshops that teach teachers to teach Science to students. These workshops will help teachers get better prepared in teaching Science familiarizing themselves with the material’s before presenting them to the students. Teachers need to look for new strategies that are up to date with technology, share ideas with other teachers from different schools. Teacher should find different ways to assess students with prior knowledge then just having students review material from the past.  Teachers should record themselves teaching or watch videos of people teaching so that they are aware of mistakes that are being made or ways to improve teaching styles. Teachers need to find activities that support the lesson being taught and make sure that students understand that they are collecting the correct data. I think that if Science teachers take workshops to improve their teaching methods this will help the students. Teachers are a reflection of what you have in the classroom. Teachers are what make a lesson interesting or if the class was engage in the lesson. The link below has different ways to improve the teaching styles in science.
